Shachiku-san wa Yо̄jo Yuurei ni Iyasaretai Episode 06
Shachiku-san Wants to be Healed by a Little Girl Ghost
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Myaako brushes her hair, so Fushihara offers to do it for her. Yuurei-chan gets a bit jealous and cries when Myaako tells her to wait. As such, Fushihara puts Yuurei-chan’s hair into a ponytail. Naturally, Myaako wants this as well. Fushihara complies, and the two spirits demand to know who looks best.
Fushihara encourages Myaako to tell the story behind her brush. As a bakeneko, Myaako did not fit into the world of humans nor of cats. But one day, a yakuza man took her in as a kitten, fed her, bathed her, and brushed her fur. Myaako saw he was lonely, and got him to keep her.
However, when he gets notified of his boss’s death, Myaako reveals her humanoid side to keep him from getting killed. He has to crush her feelings, telling her to wait in a box at a certain street corner for an office lady (Fushihara). This story brings Fushihara and Yuurei-chan to tears. However, Myaako states that it was just a story, not real.
Sometime later at the office, Yuurei-chan is upset that Fushihara is getting more work piled on her. Fushihara explains that in an office, folks help each other. As such, Yuurei-chan makes tea for Fushihara, but finds her missing. Since Fushihara’s stuff is still there, Yuurei-chan waits and falls asleep, dreaming of her life alive. Fushihara returns and realizes Yuurei-chan is dreaming about her mom. As such, she embraces the spirit.
Later at the apartment, the girls don’t want Fushihara killing a mosquito. As such, she breaks out a mosquito net over the futon. However, she cannot sleep due to the constant demands of the girls.
Thoughts/Review:
We get some more adorable cuteness, but also sadness in Miss Shachiku and the Little Baby Ghost 06.
Roller Coaster Emotions
Based on traffic to my own blog and other sources, I see that Shachiku-san Wants to be Healed by a Little Girl Ghost (the proper name) isn’t highly desired nor highly thought of. After watching Miss Shachiku and the Little Baby Ghost 06, I think I may know part of the reason (beyond crappy, official titling). This series puts one through a roller coaster of emotions.
Myaako and Yuurei-chan are both very adorable and cute. However, Yuurei-chan’s feelings get hurt pretty easily. And it isn’t fun seeing a child who’s been hurt, even if said hurt is minor in the extreme. I’m guessing that the anime adapters, and the source manga-ka think that even the tears are adorable and cute, when in fact they cut like a knife.
Further, Myaako told a story that was intended to be a tearjerker. The writers build up this tale of Myaako being accepted by a thug yakuza, only to be “crushed” when he throws her out to spare her from seeing him die. The story didn’t mesh at all with what we’d known about Myaako, but it still was a sad story. And even if it is just a tall tale, I don’t want to be depressed.
There’s also Yuurei-chan’s tragic backstory. From what little we’ve seen, Yuurei-chan didn’t have a father. She was left alone a lot and tried to do what she could to help her mom. But then one day, her mom wasn’t there. And if I had to guess, Yuurei-chan died from neglect. Again, this produces a depressing cloud over an otherwise adorable series.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Miss Shachiku and the Little Baby Ghost 06 continues be adorable and even make me smile. However, there are strong elements of sadness throughout, even though these characters are in the best places of their entire life and afterlife.
